I say the sounds slowly, 'c-a-t', and your child is encouraged to blend the sounds together and say the whole word, 'cat'.

• Oral blending is an important literacy skill where children combine separate, spoken sounds, phonemes, to form a whole word. It is crucial as it helps children to develop phonemic awareness, to decode unknown words, and builds fluency and confidence in reading.

• There are no written words on screen, so children can focus purely on listening to sounds and blending them together – an essential early phonics skill.
