In this video we join the City of Clearwater lifeguards as a junior lifeguard to rescue dad who is being swept out to the ocean in a rip current. Teaming up with a real lifeguard, Kid Crew works with a real, lifeguard truck, rescue Jet Ski, and rescue sled. We also team up to maintain the beach and use a beach combing tractor, special beach garbage truck, and skid steer.
First we start the day with the lifeguards on Clearwater Beach and put out a red flag to caution swimmers to stay out of the water. But of course, Dad goes for a swim and can’t get back to shore. He’s trying to swim back, but just keeps getting pushed farther out to into the ocean. He’s caught in a (pretend) rip current. A rip current is strong fast moving current that goes towards the ocean. If you ever not able to make it to shore in the water, you first need to remain calm and focus on floating. Then swim sideways and diagonally back to shore. Rip currents aren’t extremely wide, so you are able to get out of them by moving to the side. Anyways, Kid Crew and his lifeguard see dad with their binoculars and race to the beach lifeguard truck. It’s got surfboards, other rescue gear, and big off-road tires to handle the sand. Most importantly though, it has a rescue jet ski attached on a trailer. This is a special lifeguard jet ski with an inflatable hull surround and a rescue sled on the back to tow people. They drive the truck to shore, then unhook the trailer and prepare to put the jet ski in the water. The coolest thing about this trailer is that is actually launches the boat forwards into the water and is just left behind to float shore. With the jet ski in the water, the two ride out to dad and rescue him! Then dad is educated about what he should have done.
Next we join the City of Clearwater team to maintain the beach! Our first job is cleaning, so we use a John Deere tractor with a Barber Surf Rake attached. The rake captures anything in the sand and puts it in a hopper in the back. We clean the beach of some litter (that we planted) and then head to the maintenance yard dumpster to dump our load. After dumping litter in the dumpster, we check out a specialized beach garbage truck and watch it do part of its trash route. Lastly we observe a skid steer filling in a hole on the beach that was way too deep to be safe. Official guidelines are that you should never dig a hole at the beach that is deeper than your knee. This video’s “play along at home” segment was going to be making a miniature beach in a big puddle in the backyard with sand, and then using toy trucks and characters to carry out the critical beach operations we saw in the epsiode. However, we got the flu so that part wasn’t filmed but please feel free to be inspired by the description. In the educational segment we learn how lifeguard stations work.
Come pretend play with us! Join us kids, toddlers, girls, and boys as we use our ride on toy trucks, toy tractors, and toy equipment to do construction, farming, and home improvement pretend play projects. While we play our games and drive our vehicles, we learn about engineering, science, STEM, and how things work in our educational segment.
Thank you for watching Kid Crew!
