Welcome back, phonics superheroes! Today is Day 16 of our Phonics Boost, and we’re already halfway through our exciting journey to becoming reading stars! Let’s turn on our phonics brains and superhero listening ears to dive into today’s lesson.

We have five new focus sounds to learn: er, f, h, o, and v. We’ll practice saying these sounds together, first slowly and then a little quicker. It’s important to remember the sounds we’ve learned over the past days, too! We’ll blend all these sounds together for some fun phonics practice.

Today, we’re focusing on the er sound. It’s a long sound, and we’ll practice saying it together. Then, we’ll explore a magic box filled with objects. I’ll show you an item, and you’ll tell me if it starts with the er sound or not. We’ll sort them out together, and then I’ll speed things up a bit to see how quickly you can identify the sounds!

Next, we’ll have some oral blending fun. I’ll sound out words like run, red, and rat, and you’ll repeat them after me. After that, we’ll read some new er words together, including a special challenge word: rabbit, which has a digraph in it! You’ll get to practice saying it multiple times.

We’ll also review some tricky words we’ve learned, including our new tricky word, 'we'. We’ll practice saying them all together, making sure to include our new words. To wrap up, we’ll review our focus sounds again and play a fun game where you guess which sound I’ve taken away. You’ve worked so hard today, and I’m so proud of you! Give yourself a big pat on the back, and I can’t wait to see you for Day 17!
